A power amplifier module is a "core amplification component," whereas a power amplifier chassis is a "complete, ready-to-use device."

Both may utilize the same core amplifier circuitry and semiconductor technologies (such as GaN, LDMOS, or GaAs), and they can share identical frequency ranges and output power ratings. The real distinction lies in the design approach: with a module, the customer is responsible for peripheral elements such as power supply, thermal management, control, and protection systems; a chassis, however, integrates all these components, allowing the customer to simply connect power and signals to begin operation.
